Summer Projects and How to Lose a Pound in 30 minutes April 16, 2009

Ben and I decided that it was really important to us to learn about gardening this summer and plant some of our own herbs and vegetables. We started some seeds a couple weeks ago and finally yesterday they were ready to be planted. We built a flower box out of scrap wood we bought from Home Depot for $2 total and spray painted it yellow (because it looks so much cuter that way). Look at our babies!
We have oregano, green onions, and parsley in the yellow box. The 3 smaller pots are oregano in the square one, shasta daisies in the bigger round one, and basil in the smaller one. The basil looks good enough to eat right now! I can’t wait to cook with it.
In addition to building our flower box, I’ve been working on an idea I had for wedding favors. In tune with our green/eco-friendly wedding, we decided we would like to urge our guests to plant some green themselves. I bought a few 3” flower pots from JoAnn Fabrics for about 70 cents each and painted them with some 50 cent acrylic paint. Pretty cheap favor, eh? Then I’ll add a cute little ribbon and a packet of seeds and our guests can take them home and grow something and think of us each year when it comes up. Here’s the start of them, I’m still trying out paint colors and which type of paint works best on the terra cotta which sucks up the paint and needs lots of coats.

I also found a surefire way to lose weight today! I cut off all my hair. I hadn’t gotten a haircut since October and after 6 months I was ready for it to be gone. I cut off a good 4-5 inches and its pretty short! See for yourself…

- family room with HUGE window
- living area with big windows and patio door
- our front door and coat closet
- fireplace in living room
- bathroom with pretty window
- bedroom – its a little small so we’ll have to be creative
- our patio with weird branches we’ll probably get rid of
Invitation Sample April 8, 2009

I found a designer on Etsy.com (coolest craft site ever) that made me a mockup of an invitation idea. Here is the sample she sent me. I think I can very easily recreate it myself (for cheaper) if I find a good stamp.
In other great news, WE’RE MOVING! We found the most perfect wonderful apartment this morning! After a LOOOONG month of searching and being on the brink of giving up, we found it. We’ve been looking to find a place closer to work, around shops/bars/restaurants, and with younger neighbors. Our new place (pending application acceptance and deposity payment) is in the Highlands of Louisville which is the younger, hipper neighborhood. It is a one bedroom with huge dining room, eat in kitchen (a real kitchen too! with lots of counters and cabinets), living room with 3 big windows, and a bedroom.
I wish I’d taken 100 pictures because its so great. The living room is YELLOW!! and the curtains that come with it match Ben’s maroon couch. The dining/family room is greenish and will look great with our darker colored wood furniture. Its all hardwood floors which is great but means we need some rugs (got any extra?! rugs are expensive). The kitchen has tan and ivory striped wallpaper and is really cute. I couldn’t be more excited! They have on-site recycling bins and a big laundry room in the basement too! Here is a picture of the building and hopefully we’ll have more in a few weeks. We plan moving at the beginning of May.

9 MONTHS to go! April 4, 2009

Less than 9 months until Ben and I get married!! Looks like we need to get movin on somethings.
1. Find rehearsal dinner locations
2. Order THE DRESS
3. Find Bridesmaid dresses
4. Book DJ
5. Sign catering contract and try the FOOD!
6. Talk to Florist
7. Design, print, and send Save the Dates
8. Announce engagement in newspapers
Most of this = spending money. So far so good with the budget. We got a quote from the hall for wedding/reception rental, food, and alcohol and its all on par with what we’d planned. YAY! The dress is within budget but there isnt’ much room for alterations, fancy shoes, and hair and makeup money.
